CBT and DBT sessions from age 6
We offer cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills sessions with an HCPC-registered psychologist for people aged 6 and above, subject to an individual suitability assessment. We confirm the appropriate approach, therapist availability and country eligibility before arranging treatment.
What is CBT?
CBT explores links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It uses agreed goals and practical exercises. The approach is adapted to the person’s needs and communication preferences; younger children may need more parent or carer involvement.
CBT may be considered for particular coexisting difficulties, such as anxiety, following assessment. It is not a promise to cure autism or ADHD. NICE discusses adapted CBT for anxiety in autistic young people who can engage with the approach. Read NICE’s guidance.
What does DBT involve?
DBT combines acceptance and change strategies, including skills for managing emotions, tolerating distress, mindfulness and relationships.
Individual DBT-informed skills sessions are different from a comprehensive DBT programme. A comprehensive programme normally combines individual therapy, skills training, between-session coaching and a therapist consultation team. Ask which elements a proposed service includes.
Our individual DBT skills sessions are not advertised as a comprehensive DBT programme. The clinician will explain the appropriate approach and the support included before treatment is agreed.
Age and suitability
Assessment and therapy enquiries are welcome from age 6. The appropriate therapy format, developmental needs and parent or carer involvement are assessed individually. Child, adolescent and adult approaches are adapted to the person; not every DBT format is suitable for every age group.
NICE recommends considering adolescent-adapted DBT for young people with significant emotional dysregulation and frequent self-harm. That is a specific clinical indication, not a recommendation for every child with ADHD or autism. Read NICE’s guidance.
Fees and what is included
Therapy fees are confirmed in writing after we establish the appropriate clinician and format. The quote will state session length, whether sessions are individual or group, review points, any between-session support, and cancellation terms. Therapy is separate from our published assessment and £95 follow-up fees.
We do not require you to assume that a fixed course length will be appropriate before assessment. Any proposed block of sessions should include a review of progress and next steps.

Read our age and country eligibility information. Cross-border clinical appointments are subject to the clinician’s permissions, insurance and local care arrangements.
An introductory call is not therapy or a crisis service. For immediate danger, contact emergency services where you are located.
